ਇਹ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਮੀਰੀ ਪੀਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਿਕ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੀਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਤੀਰ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ |
ਇਸ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਛੇਂਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸਾਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਅੱਠਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸਾਹ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਹਰਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਸਥੀਆਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ
ਤੋਂ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਜਲ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ | ਇਸ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਤਾਲਪੁਰੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ

immersed in the river here. Guru Hargobind Ji in 1644 as well as Guru Har Rai in 1661 were cremated here. The ashes of Guru Harkrishan Ji were brought from Delhi and immersed here in 1664.
Kiratpur Sahib, one of the several towns founded by the Sikh Gurus, is situated on the left bank of Sutlej river in the Shivalik foothills. The foundation of Kiratpur was laid by the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind, in May 1626 by ceremonially planting a sapling on a tract of land acquired from Tara Chand, the ruler of a small hill state, Kalur.
