ਅਹਿਸਾਸ
ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੈ । ਇਕ ਹਸਮੁੱਖ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਿਰਦਾਰ ਸੀ, ਮੈ ਅੱਜ ਤੱਕ ਮੈ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਨਾ ਮਾੜਾ ਕਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਥੋਂ ਕਰਾਵੇ । ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਹੱਸਦਾ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਗੱਲ ਸ਼ਵਾਏ ਔੜਦੀ। ਬੜਾ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਜੁਅਬੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ਤਾ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਸੀ , ਕਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਕਦੀ ਨਾ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਕਰਨਾ ।ਵਿਆਹ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਪੱਖੋਂ ਇਹਨਾ ਬਦਲ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ ਕਦੀ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ । ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਇਕ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸੁਨੱਖੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ । ਉਹ ਸ਼ਕਲੋਂ ਬੜੀ ਭੋਲੀ ਭਾਲੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਛਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗੀ ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਜਾਜਤ ਦੇਵੋ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਆ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਕੋਈ ਨੋਕਰੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਾਇਨ ਚ ਕੋਈ ਕੋਰਸ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਲੈਣ ਲਗ ਗਿਆ । ਮੈ ਉਸ ਭੋਲੇ ਭਾਲੇ ਚੇਹਰੇ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਤੋ ਹਾਲੇ ਕੋਹਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਸੀ। ੳਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਰਸ ਦਰਾਨ ਹੀ ੳਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਆਜਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਆਣ ਲਗਾ। ੳਹ ਅੰਖੀ ਘੱਟਾ ਪਾਣ ਚ ਰਤਾ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਝਿਜਕ ਦੀ। ਕਈ ਵਾਰੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪਤਾ ਹੋਣ ਤੋ ਬਾਅਦ ਵੀ ਬੰਦਾ...
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਚੁੱਪ ਵਟ ਜਾਦਾਂ ਕਿ ਦੋ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਜਤ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਗ ਲਗ ਜਾਦਾਂ। ਪਰ ੳਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਚੁੱਪ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਜਬੂਰੀ ਸਮਝਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ ਸੀ। ਕੋਰਸ ਪੁਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ੳਸਨੇ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਇਵੇਟ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਨੋਕਰੀ ਕਰ ਲਈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਲੱਖ ਮਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਾਆਦ ਵੀ ।ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਦਲੀਲਾਂ ਵੀ ੳਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਰਤਾਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਬੁਹਤ ਛੋਟੀਆਂ ਮੋਟੀਆਂ ਜਾਪਦੀਆ ਸਨ । ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ੳਸ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਛੋਟਾ ਸਬਦ ਸੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅਗੇ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ੳਹ ਮੰਡਾ ਵੀ ਵਿਆਹਿਆ ਅਤੇ ੳਹ ਇਕ ਕੁੜੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਉ ਸੀ। ਮੇਰਾ ਵੀ ਇਕ ਬੇਟਾ ਸੀ। ਸਿਆਣੇ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਸ਼ਕ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਲੁਕਦੇ । ਸ਼ੱਕ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੀ ਹੁਣ ਯਕੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ । ਮੇਰੇ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਵੀ ਲੀਨਕ ਤਕੜਾ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਸਭ ਸਾਫ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਤਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਗਿਆ ਦਿਲ ਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਇਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਤਾਂ ਤੋੜ ਦੇਵਾ ਪਰ,,,,,ਭਾਗ 2 ਜਲਦ ਹੀ…….

First of all thank you for writing and sharing Punjabi stories.
Our family has been living in Canada for the past 45 years. I am well versed in both cultures. I can read write and speak Punjabi, Hindi, English and French languages. Due to my employment with th3 Federal government I have come to know people from all over the world and understand their culture. I always compare how Punjabi culture compares with other cultures, the norms and values. It is during this learning exercise I came to an understanding that culture and religion are two different entities. The culture of a society is not stangnant but a viberant and living entity. It keeps changing with each generation and input of new people. The Canadian culture is a mix of most religions and people of the world.
When I compared our Punjabi culture with the Canadian culture, i learned that the Sikh religion has a lot of commonalities with Christianity. However, our cultural values differ greatly. When I came to Canada, like the male character in your story, believed in patriarchal hierarchy in family. Where male was dominant over the female. The male could fool around but female were prohibited to get out of the house because if they did, it would hurt the « honor » of the family.
This all changed when I had daughters of my own. I began to understand that the females had just as equal rights as males. And the family honor is tarnished regardless of a male or female. I hope your next part will support wife’s decision. She would leave if the husband did not treat her like a slave. The equality is not just a word. I can share with you that my daughters are true Sikhs. But they will not tolerate any husband treating like a master. Like a character in your story. Thank you.
